New Business Development Manager, Central Africa

Uniquely, we sell our life-changing Sun King™ solar home lights to off-grid families in India and Africa through a massive direct sales force of trusted, village-level sales agents that penetrate deeply into rural markets to promote our products home to home and build trust in our brand at a micro level.
Today, over 5,000 active village sales agents sell Sun King™ each month, increasing their own incomes by about 40% on average. Since 2009 over 1,500,000 homes in India and Africa have started using Sun King in their house, every night. And now we’re employing the resources to scale up dramatically— to over 1,500 frontline staff and 25,000 rural sales agents across several international markets.

Reporting to:Senior Business Development Manager, West and Central Africa
The New Business Development Manager, Central Africa will be responsible for managing and expanding the overall book of business for Greenlight Planet’s Sun King line of solar home lighting solutions in Central Africa with a strong focus on the Congos and Burundi. He/she will be responsible for developing new distribution channels, driving growth of existing channels and developing and executing marketing campaigns to ensure massive penetration of Greenlight Planet’s products in the region.
Key responsibilities for the role include:
Identifying and cultivating new distribution channels
Managing and growing existing distribution partners
Increasing consumer awareness of the Sun King™ brand
Launching new product lines into the market
Meeting aggressive sales and revenue targets
The ideal candidate:
Has a college degree and at least 6-10 years of sales and business development experience in Central Africa working with product distribution catering to mass market consumers
Has a strong record of meeting revenue targets and experience growing new business lines
Is entrepreneurial and excited about the opportunity to creatively build effective, non-traditional sales channels in a nascent product category
Is fluent in French and English
Is passionate about his/her work and driven by Greenlight Planet’s social mission of bringing innovative, renewable energy and life-enhancing products to Central African markets
Is comfortable working independently and remotely in a lean environment
Likes getting hands on to figure out how to grow a high-potential business
Is a natural people-person, one that thrives off of building strong relationships both within the organization and externally
Is willing to spend 40-50% of his/her time on the road interacting with country-level distribution partners, resellers, customers and partners
